message from a butterfly

by T. Marolda

I saw a beautiful black and white striped butterfly rapidly flitting and floating amongst some flowers yesterday (June 21).  I stood and watched and noticed how still I had become, staring at the wonder of this incredible butterfly.  I also noticed a bright red patch of color that appeared when the butterfly opened its wings and every so often, I could see the slightest hint of sky blue on the lower wings.

I had never seen this type of butterfly and I was struck by the fact that the previous day was the summer solstice (June 20) and yesterday (June 21) was the full moon in Capricorn.  The summer solstice is equated with extreme yang and a full moon equates to extreme yin.

I don't know about you, but I have been feeling the push and pull of energy this June.  I would compare it to the push and pull of yin (represented by the color black) and yang (represented by the color white).  Yin and Yang sustain life, and keep us going.  The butterfly's message is a reminder for us to stay grounded in our root chakra and to speak our truth during the energetic shifts that are occurring in our world.

One way to ground is to stand with knees slightly bent and imagine roots growing from the bottom of your feet, extending down deep into Mother Earth.  Feel yourself pulled down and anchored securely.  If you are unable to stand you can also do it in a seated position with your feet on the ground.

Once grounded, use your voice, make sounds, yell, scream, sing, hum - open up that throat chakra and begin to experiment with your voice.  What is true for you?  Listen to and honor yourself.

Anodea Judith's book Wheels of Life: A User's Guide to the Chakras is a great reference if you want to explore and learn more about the Chakra system.  I highly recommend it.

Message me if you have any questions or comments.

BTW - it was a zebra striped swallowtail butterfly!
